June 13, 2013

Berlin, Vt -- Emily Lourie, PT, DPT recently joined Central Vermont Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services Department.  She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of New England, Portland, Maine. She previously worked at Sandy River Nursing Center, Genesis Health Care in Farmington, Maine.  

“We are pleased to have been able to recruit a therapist with Emily’s education and expertise,” said Tricia Dwyer, PT,  CVMC Manager of Rehabilitation Services. “Her specialties, including neuro-rehabilitation and geriatric care, fit well with our current case load.”

The accreditation award recognizes CVMC’s dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards.

Berlin, Vt – Central Vermont Medical Center is now offering Express Care Physical Therapy services three days a week -- Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday --- at the 1311 Barre-Montpelier Road location. 

Appropriate Injuries for Express Care Clinic are acute, non-emergent musculoskeletal injuries including: ankle sprains, knee sprains, whiplash, back strain, calf strain, shoulder strains, groin pull, hamstring strain, hip/glut strain, Acute Vertigo (BPPV).

Berlin, Vt – Central Vermont Medical Center was recognized with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The A score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM, the A, B, C, D or F scores assigned to U.S. hospitals based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents, and infections. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety.

Central Vermont Medical Center was recognized for its commitment to improving quality of life by enhancing standards of care.

Berlin, Vt – The twelfth annual Rose Black Nursing Awards ceremony honored three registered nurses (RNs) and for the first time also honored two Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs) for excellence in clinical practice.

Chief Nursing Officer Alison White, RN, MHA opened the awards ceremony stating   “All of the nurses being honored today provide exceptional, compassionate and high quality care to our patients and loved ones.”

Board will coordinate improved care, improved population health, and lower cost growth for Vermont’s statewide ACO

COLCHESTER, VT – OneCare Vermont has announced the membership of its Clinical Advisory Board (CAB), an entity charged with creating a coordinated, consistent approach to improving the quality and monitoring the cost of care delivered to approximately one-third of Vermont’s Medicare Fee-for-Service beneficiaries attributed to the OneCare Vermont Accountable Care Organization (ACO).

Berlin, Vt – Central Vermont Medical Center volunteers were recognized for their service at a luncheon prepared by the CVMC Nutrition and Food Services Department on April 12, 2013.

During calendar year 2012, 168 volunteers contributed 22,568 hours to Central Vermont Medical Center. CVMC volunteers serve in various hospital departments, the cancer center, Woodridge Rehabilitation & Nursing, and in the CVMC Auxiliary Gift Shop and The Bene-Fit Shop in Barre.

Berlin, Vt  – “The field of neurologic rehabilitation is making a shift from focusing on teaching patients to compensate from their injuries to a model of recovery from their injuries due to recent findings about the plasticity of the brain,” explained Hannah Zajac PT, DPT, NCS.  She is Central Vermont Medical Center’s Neurologic Certified Specialist, one of only two in Vermont.

Berlin, Vt --- Marlaina Montgomery, OTR/L, CLT and Sarah Avery, PT, WCC, CLT were recently certified for Lymphedema Management joining a team that includes four others in Central Vermont Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services Department.
