Wound Care

Our physical therapy wound care specialists work with patients who need advanced wound care resulting from ulcers, diabetes, infections, surgery or other skin traumas.

Patients who need help in wound healing are treated by physical therapy wound care specialists. Typically, these are wounds that cannot be closed by surgery, skin grafting or stitches. The wounds need to heal by secondary intention or from the inside to the outside.

The following types of wounds can be treated by our wound care specialists:

  • Pressure ulcers
  • Diabetic wounds
  • Arterial and venous insufficiency wounds
  • Infections
  • Burns
  • Surgical Wounds
  • Skin trauma (ie. dog bite, road rash, etc.)

Some types of treatment may include:

  • sharp debridement
  • pulsed lavage
  • vacuum assisted closure (VAC)
  • compression wrappings and specialty dressings.

While receiving treatment we take measurements and photographs to gauge the healing progress. Throughout the wound healing process we stay in contact with the person's physician to relay progress and areas of concern for best outcomes.

Outpatient Treatment

Patients who have been identified by their physicians as needing continued help in wound healing can be referred to CVMC's Podiatrists for further treatment.
