About the Branches of Hope Fund

When you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, you find hope in unexpected places. The compassion of your caregivers and your community gives you hope that you will make your way to the light at the end of the tunnel. And when a cancer diagnosis means your income is reduced but your expenses are not, hope comes from the offer to pay a bill, fill a tank, put groceries on the table.

That’s what Central Vermont Medical Center’s Branches of Hope fund does for central Vermonters dealing with cancer. Established in 2010, it helps individuals and families with both routine and unexpected expenses related to housing, transportation, medical services and much more. Sometimes the small grant enables the person to complete treatment. Sometimes it helps the person sleep at night. Always, it gives hope.

One-hundred percent of the Branches of Hope fund directly supports the needs of individuals and families receiving cancer care.

Winter Update

It’s 10 degrees out this morning—brrr! We just called a local fuel company to order 150 gallons of heating oil for one of our patients. For a year he has been disabled with metastic cancer. His wife was out of work with an injury for 3 months, and now she missed time because his condition has declined and he can’t always be left alone. They are hard-working people with a modest lifestyle; even so, it’s likely they will never again make ends meet. But because of you, they are not as worried today as they were yesterday.

What a gift it is to be able to ease their burden by heating their home. A gift made possible by your support of the Branches of Hope Patient Fund.

In the past year our patient fund has helped individual and families with basic living expenses such as food, gas, electricity, heat, rent and insurance. It also enabled one man with advanced cancer to see the Red Sox win the World Series—in person! —and another to take a first and last trip to the Maine coast with his twin sister for their birthday celebration.

At this cold and dark time of year, we thank you for your part in giving warmth and light to central Vermonters who are contending with the challenges of cancer diagnosis and treatment. We appreciate your generosity more than words can express.

Thank you from all the Cancer Care staff at CVMC!
