Berlin, Vt. – The Vermont Foodbank’s VeggieVanGo, a mobile food pantry, will deliver its first round of healthy groceries to the University of Vermont Health Network – Central Vermont Medical Center on Friday, Jan. 26. Community members experiencing food insecurity are invited to pick up free, fresh produce and other staples from 9 to 11 a.m. in conference rooms 1 and 2 on the hospital’s lower level.

VeggieVanGo will distribute food at CVMC on five additional Fridays: Feb. 23, March 23, April 27, May 25 and June 22.

The mobile food pantry is an extension of CVMC’s Health Care Share program, a food assistance collaboration with Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC), created to provide healthy food and nutrition education to patients and community members. Each week of the growing season, nearly 600 people receive shares of fresh vegetables, herbs and pasture-raised poultry from the Farm at VYCC in Richmond.

VeggieVanGo allows the Health Care Share to expand during the non-growing season to fill nutrition gaps for families while the VYCC farm is closed.
