
“Dr. Braun will focus on adult spine surgery including neck surgery and thoracic trauma,” stated Judy Tartaglia, CVMC president and CEO. “I think area patients will appreciate having this service close to home.”
Dr. Braun received his BA at the University of Texas at Austin in the Liberal Arts Honors Program, where he was a Dean’s Distinguished Graduate and graduated with Special Honors in Research. He was awarded his MD by Cornell University Medical College in New York City. His General Surgery Internship was completed at the New York Hospital- Cornell Medical Center in New York. Dr. Braun continued on to do his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He was awarded the John H. Moe Fellowship in Orthopedic Spine Surgery at the Twin Cities Scoliosis Spine Center and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
John T. Braun MD is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. He was in active duty in the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Major. He also served in the Air Force Inactive Reserve for 10 years.
Dr. Braun has received numerous research awards including, most recently The Andrew N. Swanson, MD, Memorial Award for Excellence in Spine Surgery Research at The Hospital for Special Surgery Alumni Association 92nd Annual Meeting in November 2010. He has also been extensively published in journals and in writing book chapters.
Dr. Braun lives in Charlotte, Vermont with his wife Cricket and their children Caroline- age 16, Tatum-age 14 and the twelve-year old twins William and Walter. He enjoys alpine and nordic skiing and now that his children are involved in nordic ski racing he is taking that up. He has been a triathelete for years starting out with a strong background in swimming. He was a Prep School All American Swimmer, on the University of Texas at Austin 1981 NCAA Division 1 Champions Men’s Swimming and Diving Team and a nationally ranked swimmer in the USA Swimming National Championships in 1982. He was a nationally ranked triathelete in the USA Triathlon National Championships held in Burlington, Vermont in 2011.
