Interpreting services are an important component in providing quality care to meet the needs of patients who are deaf, hard of hearing, those with visual impairments, and for those who are limited in English.
Deaf Patients
CVMC provides on-demand 24 hour-a-day American Sign Language video-remote interpreting via a wireless mobile video unit which can be wheeled anywhere in the hospital. A care provider dials up a connection with Stratus, adjusts the iPad and the patient communicates with the CVMC clinician, at their side, via a certified, medically trained American Sign Language interpreter on the screen.
This is especially significant in the Emergency Department, when patients need to be seen urgently and delays in communication can occur without a readily available interpreter. Stratus is on stand by and available within ten to fifteen minutes after a patient's arrival.
