Amputee/Prothestic Training

Central Vermont Medical Center's Rehabilitation Therapy offers a comprehensive occupational and physical rehabilitation program for amputees.

The amputation of a limb is a life changing event. At CVMC Rehabilitation Therapy, we recognize that fact and have developed a program that provides comprehensive occupational and physical rehabilitation for amputees.

Given that amputees are referred to us at different phases following their amputation, we focus on working with the individual at their current level of function and limb recovery.

Working closely with the physician, prosthetist, and other members of the team, our goal is to develop a program that meets the needs of the individual.

Elements of the program include:

  • strengthening
  • increasing flexibility
  • balance re-education
  • gait training (with and without prosthesis)
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training
  • patient education

Our ultimate goal is to empower the patient and enable them to achieve as high a level of function as possible.
