Deaf Patients

CVMC provides on-demand 24 hour-a-day American Sign Language video-interpreting via a wireless mobile video unit which can be wheeled anywhere in the hospital. A care provider dials up a connection with deaf talk, adjusts the camera and the patient communicates with the CVMC clinician, at their side, via a certified, medically trained American Sign Language interpreter on the screen.

This is especially significant in the Emergency Department, when patients need to be seen urgently and delays in communication can occur without a readily available interpreter. Deaf Talk is on stand by and available within ten to fifteen minutes after a patient's arrival.

Non-English Speaking Patients

CVMC subscribes to a DT Language services that provides access to 150 languages, 24 hours per day over the telephone. They have special dual handset phones that can be available for patient rooms and throughout the hospital to accommodate non-English speaking patients.

Arranging for Interpreter Services

Arrangements can be made for our Intrepreter Services by speaking with a nurse or care manager on your health care team or by calling 802-371-4357 between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
