The art exhibit “Two Paths, One Vision” by August Burns and Elliot Burg of Middlesex, Vermont will be hanging in the Central Vermont Medical Center lobby gallery through June 6, 2014.

Berlin, Vt – During calendar year 2013, 168 Central Vermont Medical Center volunteers contributed 21,175 hours.  Volunteers serve at the hospital, the cancer center, Woodridge Rehabilitation & Nursing and The CVMC Auxiliary Bene-Fit Shop in Barre.  In addition, members of the CVMC Board of Trustees, CVMC Auxiliary and individuals from the community gave of their time and talents.

Dr. Rachel E. Gaidys is about as home grown as they come. She is a graduate of Spaulding High School, attended Norwich University, where she received her B.S. in Biology, and earned her M.D. at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.

Justin R. Knapp, MD is a welcome addition to Central Vermont Medical Center’s Inpatient Psychiatry staff. Dr. Knapp was most recently Medical Director of Psychotherapy Services and Vice-Chair of the Psychiatry Department at The Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Union Mutual of Vermont Donates $25,000 to Central Vermont Medical Center

Union Mutual of Vermont made a generous $25,000 donation to help build an outdoor terrace for Central Vermont Medical Center’s Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.

School-Based Health Center at Barre City Elementary & Middle School

A school-based health center at Barre City Elementary & Middle School is an extension of the Central Vermont Medical Center’s pediatric primary care practices. It will operate at the school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 12:30pm providing primary health care to students. Participation is voluntary and the goal is to keep kids healthy and in school, and as much as possible to maximize their learning potential.

“Group Visits for Obese Children in a Primary Care Pediatric Setting” was the topic of a poster under the “Innovations in Practice” category that Kathleen Bryant, FNP, APN-BC presented in Boston at the recent National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) 35th Annual Conference on Pediatric Health. She outlined the curriculum of the class held for CVMC pediatric patients which included basic nutrition facts, food journaling, hands on healthy snacking, body image and self-esteem and mindful eating.
