$25 MSAC members
$35 public (ages 50+)
Please note: This class is sponsored by the Montpelier Senior Activity Center and does not meet at the hospital (see location information at left).
For people with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, this class employs basic mime technique as a method for coping with movement limitations. Participants explore visualization, articulation of gesture, and creative use of imagery and space.
Circus games are geared for delightful fun: we play with manual dexterity (juggling), coordination, postural awareness, and development of reflexes. We conduct music, play circus games, and study the mime principles of Marcel Marceau in order to facilitate daily actions.
Those who wish can join The PD Players – a Parkinson’s performance troupe – in a show at the end of the session! Fun, with a purpose!
Instructor Rob Mermin, founder of Circus Smirkus, trained with renowned mime Marcel Marceau before embarking on a 40-year career in the circus world.
