A two-year collaboration between the Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient Psychiatry spurred creation of a three-bed mental health treatment area within the ED. The space opened in March and features a state-of-the-art therapeutic care environment to safely meet the mental health needs of patients in crisis. Its goal is to provide active treatment to patients awaiting placement in an appropriate inpatient setting.

The initiative puts CVMC at the forefront of statewide efforts aimed at safely, compassionately and effectively treating patients awaiting transfer to a dedicated psychiatric facility.
