ROXIE JARVIS | CVMC Bene-Fit Shop Manager & Volunteer

Bene-Fit Shop Manager and Volunteer Roxie Jarvis has folded clothes and shared smiles with customers at the thrift store every Wednesday for the last 10 years. It’s hard to tell the impact of her work at first glance but sales from the Bene-Fit shop combined with the CVMC Auxiliary Gift Shop at the hospital, have helped raise more than a million dollars for the Auxiliary since 1968.

Over 60 members strong, the Auxiliary is made up of dedicated volunteers who each pledge $10 to the organization. More importantly, they give their hearts, minds and hands to raise money for all kinds of projects to make people’s lives better. In the 2015 calendar year, the Auxiliary gave out more than $40,000 for patient-centered needs. They also awarded ten $2,500 scholarships to local students pursuing careers in health care.

The Auxiliary does more though than give away money. It’s the personal touch they provide that makes their work special. Once a month the Auxiliary knitting group gets together to make hats for newborn babies and shawls for seriously ill patients. These members and the 160 volunteers who work throughout the medical center – from helping transport patients to aiding with spiritual care – show up, unpaid, every day, bringing their compassion and spirit to our halls. CVMC is a better place because of their service.
