Christopher Barbieri was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Stewart Manor on Long Island. He received an undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University and graduate degree in Agricultural Economics with a focus on marketing from the University of Vermont.
His first visit to Vermont was at 6 months of age and thereafter spent every summer through graduation beginning at 10 years of age working on Ted Bothfeld's dairy farm in Cabot. Following graduation he was employed at HP Hood Dairy in Boston as Special Projects manager in the retail sales department and was later promoted to Retail Sales Manager in Burlington then as General Sales Manager in Portland, Maine.
He accepted a position as Executive Vice President at the Vermont Chamber of Commerce and later promoted to President of the Chamber, a position held for 30 years. During that period the Chamber grew from a 2 employee organization with a $60,000 budget to over 20 employees and a budget of $1.7 million.
He resigned as President in 2003 to open and manage the Chamber's International trade office in Shanghai Chamber. He retired from the Chamber in 2010 and is currently President of China Business Development Tours.
Chris and his wife Laurel live in Worcester and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
