Judy Tarr Tartaglia recently appointed Dr. Sarah Swift as Director of Central Vermont Medical Center’s Hospitalist Program. She most recently served as an inpatient attending physician at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in the division of Hospital Medicine. She was also on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
“In her career Dr. Swift has provided care to patients with a high level of acuity and complexity from arrival at the Emergency Department to discharge from the hospital, and she has university level teaching experience,” said Judy. “This combination gives her a firm grounding for managing our Hospitalist Program, a vital service in the care of patients at CVMC.”
Dr. Swift graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania, with a BA in Biology and English Literature. She earned her MSS in Psychology, Law and Social Policy at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Her MD is from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where she was the Hope Scholar for Distinguished Achievement in Basic Sciences. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and is a member of the Society for Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians.
“I was probably one of the first hospitalists in the United States in 1997, stepping into that role as soon as the divergence between hospital and office medicine began to develop in academic settings,” stated Swift.
“I look forward to working with the talented people at CVMC,” she noted. “I have strong ties to New England and rural communities and am very happy to be getting settled in central Vermont.”
