Jennifer Gordon, LICSW recently joined the Montpelier Health Center as their Clinical Social Worker, part of an integrative health team.

She received her Masters of Social Work degree (MSW) from Fordham University and her B.A. in Journalism from Northeastern University. Jennifer completed a primary practicum in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York. She also completed an internship at UMass Medical Center at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society where she was trained to teach and facilitate Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction classes.

Jennifer worked as a teacher’s aide in New Jersey at a school for children with autism where she did Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).  She  was also the director of a hospital based intensive outpatient program where she developed a coping and social skills based treatment curriculum for people struggling with substance use disorders.

For the last seven years, as Co-Founder of The Vermont Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy in South Burlington, she focused on delivering evidence-based treatment for a wide range of psychological problems.  Jennifer has a particular interest in the integration of mindfulness strategies in facilitating a patient’s health and well-being. She has used mindfulness with cognitive behavioral interventions in the assessment and treatment of  anxiety, mood and eating disorders.  “The therapy I do is directive, action-oriented and relatively short-term.  I work collaboratively with my patients to achieve their goals,” says Jennifer.

She currently holds a position as Clinical Instructor at the University of Vermont School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry where she teaches psychiatry residents about the method and practice of cognitive behavior therapy.

Jennifer lives in Waterbury with her husband, Garin, and their son, Noah, age five.

Jennifer is currently taking appointments at CVMC’s Montpelier Health Center. For more information or to make an appointment call 223-4738.
