Occupational Therapists (OT) are licensed health care professionals who evaluate and treat people with physical, cognitive, sensory, visual, motor and/or psychological disabilities. Occupational Therapists help patients master the skills needed for self-care, work and play. Treatment may include therapeutic methods, applied and assistive technology, and environmental modifications.
Each occupational therapy session will focus on how an individual's cognitive impairments affect their ability to independently complete daily activities. The therapist will then lead the client through real world activites to promote strategies, accomodations and/or adaptions in cooking, dressing and home making tasks. As appropriate for each client, the therapist may also work on independent skills necessary for community living such as money management, meal planning and accessing transportation.
