Cardiology

Cardiology is the study and treatment of heart disorders. At Central Vermont Medical Center our Cardiology Department performs a wide variety of non-invasive diagnostic heart tests to help physicians better understand how each patient's heart is functioning. The information will be used by the physician to determine how best to treat heart disorders. Tests are performed on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Neurodiagnostic testing (EEG) is also done in the Cardiology Department at Central Vermont Medical Center.

Cardiology Tests and Procedures

The following types of cardiology tests are performed by our cardiologists:

In addition, Dr. Joachim Mueller provides the following services:

  • Outpatient electrophysiology studies, including catheter ablation, for CVMC patients at Fletcher Allen Health Care
  • Pacemakers and implantable cardioverter/defibrillators (ICDs) at CVMC

Arranging for a Test

Inpatients: If you are a patient in the hospital, physicians may request that your cardiology test be done before you are discharged home. Arrangements for testing will be made between the nursing staff and the Cardiology staff.

Outpatients: If your test is to be performed on an outpatient basis the physician's office staff will set up an appointment date and time for you to come into CVMC Cardiology Department to have the test performed. All Cardiology tests require a written physician's order prior to the test. Scheduling is done through CVMC Registration (802) 371-4283.

Note: Cardiac Stress Tests and Transesophageal Echocardiograms require that a physician be present during the test. Scheduling varies according to the availability of the physician and technologist.
